A credit report is the financial identity of the person to whom it belongs. A credit report shows where you stand fiscally, how clean you are with your payments and what is the amount of money you owe to the market.

This information is vital when it comes to applying for a credit card, a personal loan, a vehicle loan or even a home loan. And hence, it’s important that you stay on top of this information, mapping it correctly and clearing any erroneous data in the same.

Fortunately, the government and the federal trade commission keep a good understanding of this and give you legal privilege to access your credit report for free.

In order to keep things in order and avoid hoax websites, the government has only one authorized website, where you can securely and legally acquire your free annual government credit report, namely AnnualCreditReport.com.

There are three major credit bureaus in the United states and they are Experian, Transunion and Equifax. AnnualCreditReport.com lets you order your government credit report from all three. So take good advantage of your legal privileges and order your credit reports from all three agencies, since there is a chance that the three agencies may report different information.

How to order your free government credit report?

To begin with, open the only authorized government credit report website AnnualCreditReport.com. Once the website opens, select your state from the drop down that shows on the homepage. Once selected, click the button that reads “Request Report”.

You should now see a form requesting a few important details from your end such as your Name, Date of Birth, your SSN, Current Address and previous address (this field only needs to be filled if you’ve been living at your current residence for less than two years)

On the next page, you need to enter the characters that you see on screen. This is a security measure put in place to ensure that no automated software is requesting the details. Once you’ve entered these details, click “Request Report”.

Now check the tick-boxes next to the name of the three government authorized credit bureaus. You are free to select either or all three. Then click “Next”.

Now the website for the credit bureau should open. You may be asked for certain validation information which you need to enter.

Once done, you can now see your credit report.
